The Use of Insulin Pumps in Specific Populations

A TRAINING PROGRAM FOR HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS
Purpose: to inform healthcare providers and caregivers successful use of insulin pumps in specific populations and in certain medical conditions
Program learning objectives:
At the end of this presentation, the participant will be able to:
1. Describe The basic concepts of Insulin Pump Therapy
2. List special considerations in managing a hospitalized patient on an insulin pump.
3. Explain issues related to insulin pump therapy which may impact blood glucose control during hospitalization.
4. Identify two important considerations in documenting while caring for a hospitalized patient using insulin pump therapy.
This is a CE Credit Program and presents general information on insulin pumps and is not specific to one brand.

Mary Ellen brings a wealth of expertise and insight to her position of clinical manager for Animas Corporation, which she has held for over three years. Her professional background includes: working as a diabetes educator at NYU Medical Center for over 20 year, including as a member of the transplant team. Obtaining her CDE in 1986, Mary Ellen’s broad experience as an educator also includes providing patient education and clinical support for a large pediatric endocrinology practice; providing patient assessment, education and staff support for a hospital-based home care agency; working with local schools to develop care plans for children with diabetes, and a position on the medical board of Camp Nejeda. Mary Ellen has a personal stake in her work, as she has two sisters with type 1 diabetes.
