What Men with Diabetes Need to Know about Low Testosterone
New research suggests men with diabetes are more than twice as likely to have low testosterone (low T) compared to other men. AADE is introducing a new educational campaign, Take Charge. Talk T., to help you better understand low T and how it relates to your male patients.
Nationwide, an estimated 13 million men age 45 and older suffer from low T. Symptoms such as low sex drive, erectile dysfunction, depression and fatigue can significantly impact a man’s quality of life. Low T can be easily diagnosed and managed, yet fewer than 10 percent of men with the condition are currently receiving treatment.
Low T deserves attention as an important aspect of diabetes care. That’s why AADE has developed free educational materials to help you discuss the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of low T with your male patients.
Free Patient Pamphlets Request free pamphlets (in packets of 25) to share with male patients during visits. We recommend reviewing the information in the pamphlet with each appropriate patient and encouraging them to fill out the enclosed quiz to assess their low T risk. It may be helpful to complete the quiz together so you can have an open discussion about the condition.

Download PowerPoint slides [click Save to save power point presentation to your hard drive for personal use] Power Point Presentation about low T to include as part of your presentation given during educational group sessions. The slides are short, allowing you to present the most important information to a larger group. It also includes notes to help you discuss the topic. We recommend handing out the patient pamphlets after each presentation for men to learn more.
